Theme Development
Before my senior year, my co-editor Brennan and I attended the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop to develop our theme. We did the Theme Development Workshop under Pam Bunka to develop our theme "Timeless."
Opening
As the only one of the Editors-in-Chief of the 2024 yearbook who doesn't design I took on the verbal development of the theme. I wrote the opening and closing, as well as developing thematic catchphrases for our book.
This is the first page of our opening. The point of our theme "Timeless" is to try to refute the common saying that "high school doesn't matter." With our theme we wanted to show that while high school isn't forever, the values we learn are important. I tried to start the theme with the stereotypical "high school doesn't matter sayings."
This is the second page of our opening. It is on this spread that we display how "Timeless" views high school. I took all of the questions from the first spread and turned them into important moments of the year, that will go beyond the walls of ELHS.
Our MIPA Experience
Brennan and I had a lot of fun, and success at MIPA camp. We had a blast getting to collaborate with other student journalists in addition to developing our own theme. At the end of camp we won the "Sparty Award" for our theme development. We were the first group at our school to ever win this award. We were so happy, and both look back on our experience fondly.
